Okay, so I kind of volunteered to do challenges, but since this is first time.... hopefully I don't repeat anything from the past ^_^;

This round will go from July 23 - August 7.

PROMPTS

1) Harry Potter: Yup, you knew it was coming! (hears groans from jaded people who talked to one too many Harry Potter fans). To celebrate the coming of the last book and my revenge for one of the worst endings ever, the theme tonight's Harry Potter. Write anything pertaining to Harry Potter - crossovers, AU's, parodies (especially parodies :D).... Anything you can think up of. Not much more to it. Just something to do with Harry Potter.

2) Urban Fairy-tale: These things are, from all the literature I've ever read on this subject, either quite tricky to make or the wrong people are writing this stuff -____-. Incorporate elves, fairies, or other otherworldly creatures into the otherwise mundane everyday life. HINT: Don't make it into LOTR in Suburbia of Chicago, unless you think you're up to it. Please.

3) Themed:  flowers [blame Oscar Wilde and his obsession with them in Dorian Gray]
     a) Poppy + remembrance
    b) Rose + desert
    c) Lilac + hometown
    d) Lilies + college/university

4) Crack!Pairings: So I've heard of Gackt/Kirito, or Gackt/Miyavi, or even Seo Taiji/Miyavi.... But have you ever heard of Isshi/Hyde??? Basically, make up the most cracked out pairing, and write a fanfic on it. The key, is though, to make it BELIEVABLE. Well, somewhat believable. We'll leave the "somewhat" part open to interpretation ^_~.

5) Guess the Characters: Obviously in order to actually guess them, you have to know most of your j-pop people. But it's fun to guess. Don't give the people in your fic names, but try to make the characters as recognizable as possible. Obviously, most people in the show biz are way open to interpretation, as most of the fics you find anywhere tell you, so many people would have different guesses based on what they like, were exposed to, hate, etc etc. But seriously, don't worry if people will guess who the people in your fic are or not. Or maybe you should *shrugs*

6) Standardized Testing: Simple as that. J-poppers/rockers take any standardized test you can think of.

Yeah, um, somehow I feel one of these was used once before, but that's okay. Hopefully, you'll actually understand my convulated attempts to explain these prompts and have fun with these. Happy writing!

EDIT: Since the pacific coast at least is now on Tuesday, date has been moved to August 7th
[identity profile] narcomanic.livejournal.com
Let's get back on track, shall we? This round will run from June 11th to the 25th.
Hopefully the prompts didn't turn out too vague... <.<

CHALLENGES

1. Crime is abound! Think of shady crime novels with their secret inspectors and whatnot; or the criminal minds and illegal gangs of the reverse side. Hell, it can be of pickpockets and shoplifters if you want to. You can write a completely AU story or slip a few offences into real life.

2. Once upon a time... Jrock goes fairy tale. I've seen a few fics with more or less dealing with this theme but I guess it wouldn't hurt anyone to have a few more of them. Like with theme 1. I'm giving you freedom to decipher this how you want. Rewrite a fairy tale with Jrockers or twist a bit of magic into everyday life, whatever suits your fancy.

3. Transgressive. Blame this on me reading Exquisite Corpse all weekend. Stretch your moral, the law, the boundaries of good taste, if you will. However you view transgressive to be. I understand this can get kind of.... too graphic for all to stomach so proper warnings in your fics are appreciated!

4. Themed; colour + something else.

a. red + city view
b. blue + playing
c. gold + feast
d. purple + illness

So, there's time until June 25th, and as it's a tradition, everyone who turns their stuff in in time can request from me.. <.< with their own discretion.

Thank you for participating in this Round. I know a lot of people have finals and stuff lately. Actually mine are coming up in what I'm guessing is the U.S. break? (May/June) So I'm not going to be chasing things up~ (I need to work on this procrastination thing...and there are some important origific things I have to get done). Again: I won't be accepting any late entries for Round Zero. (However, all three previous rounds will, so you could post them to those entries. Loopholes ftw :P)

Even if you can't participate in a round, it's nice to still follow the round (i.e. track the entry comments) and read & comment on submitted fics, like most members did last year (I know that I read like mad, whether I'm up to writing or not, and comments from the RSA core are utter love).

[livejournal.com profile] yokozuki will be posting the next round soon.
[identity profile] mimei.livejournal.com

for the record/in case you missed the announcement

ROUND 4 2007 is an amnesty (sort of) on the previous rounds.

This means:

1. You can chose any previous challenge prompt (from 2007).

2. Because there are no new prompts, this round is officially 'Round 0'.

3. Complete a challenge and comment on this entry. Or this one, I'm not at all fussed.

4. The round runs from 15 April through 29 April

5. [livejournal.com profile] yokozuki heads up! You're tagged for the round following this.

Please, don't hesitate to comment in you have any questions or...comments. You are not required to participate in the rounds...but it'd be nice if you did. Following this will be the 'wanted' post discussed earlier. いいですか? Hope you're all well & happy ♥
[identity profile] mimei.livejournal.com
Ok! Here are some simple challenges. Give them a try! Comment for clarification/discussion/etc.

01. Theme: Fame
Hint: who couldn't live without it?

02. Prompts
a) sacrifice + divinity
b) selt-portrait + karaoke
c)
cut for image )
d) Except you enthrall me, never shall be free,
Nor ever chaste, except you ravish me.

John Donne, Holy Sonnet XIV. Full Text.
e) frustration + Eusha! Eusha!
f) insomnia + mythology

03. Form: the Unexpected
Try to structure your fic to catch the reader off-guard.

04. Seasonal Theme: 'Rebirth'
Seeing as Easter's coming up. Biblical references might be interesting. Does not have to have to do with Christianity.

05. Timed Challenge - just keep writing madly until your time runs out! Fun to do in pairs.
a) ten minutes
b) thirty minutes
c) one hour

Tagging: Who would like to take the next round?

You know the deal. Fic something & comment with a link to it on this entry. Ready, GO.

[identity profile] mayo-polyphony.livejournal.com
Evening! I bring this year`s Round 2, open until the 20th. Late fics are accepted!

Theme: Vocalists. Explore the connection of voice and words.

---Can the voice exist independent of words? Where is the voice - in the sound or the meaning?
---Where is the voice produced (physical/technological)? Where does the voice come from (conceptual/mythological/religious/philosophical)?
---What can be done with the voice? In English, one "gives voice (to)," one`s voice "drops," etc.
---What happens to words/the voice once it`s written down?

Address one question, all, or take your own approach. Form is up to you.

Exercises:
1. DRABBLE. Everyone has this knee-jerk "short=easy=crap" reaction, so I dare you to do it, and do it well.

A) Free-form: you have exactly 100 words (I expect a word count), + up to 15 for a title. These 100 words must be self-sufficient, no snippets of a longer fic. If there is redundancy in your drabble, I will eat your babies. This is where you explore characterization, style, setting, culture. To drabble (well), you must THINK, and examine that thought.

B) Box: you have 100 words only, INCLUDING the title. The key to a box drabble is to build it around a central concept, and name that concept in the title. The other 99 words should lose half their meaning if read without the title. Here, especially, your language has to be tight. The key to creating meaning in a box drabble is through juxtaposition. Use homophones, use balanced pairs in your sequence of action (i.e. open/close, up/down, light/dark, etc.). This is where you explore characterization, style, setting, culture, and LANGUAGE.

C) Cycle: write a series of three or more linked drabbles. The link can be sequential, thematic, chronological, surprise me.

D) I invite you to volunteer your drabble draft to be work-shopped. If interested, respond in the comments!

2. Theme and Variations. Structure your fic like a theme and variations composition. This is pretty much what it sounds like.

3. Dream Sequence. Incorporate a dream sequence. I`m hoping for some mind-bending horror here. No badfic, please. XP

4. Band-of-the-Fortnight. Happy Birthday, Ryuutarou!! Plastic Tree.

Process:
Write a fic in response to one or more challenge, post a link in the comments, request a fic from me! Participation is open to all. Don`t hesitate to ask for any clarification. Good luck!

Tagging: If no one claims it by the 20th, I guess it`ll bounce back to mimei. ? Hai Mi-chan douzo.

excessively bored here (so feel free to use this as a party post) but i know that a few months ago i tipsily scrawled my ideas for challenges somewhere in Most Recent Notebook. yup, found 'em.

[livejournal.com profile] last_pleasure CHALLENGES 2007 ROUND ONE

2007.02.19 (Monday 19 February 2007) through 2007.03.05 (Monday 5 March 2007) your time.
That's a whole fortnight & I'm starting with a bang.

Style Advice )

Finally...

You have an entire fortnight before the round ends, and basically forever if you can't finish it in time, I'll accept any sort of fiction, fannish or otherwise.

These challenges are meant to be TOUGH. If you'd like some simpler prompts I'm more than happy to offer them, but I might order a few limitations on them. If you'd like me to challenge YOU specifically to try something new I'll come up with something special JUST FOR YOU (just get in before the 26th, please). If you need examples, I will endeavour to provide them!

What do I mean when I say I'll fail you? Well, fulfil the prompt & you won't have to worry about that!

Brainstorm, talk, comment! Join in! You don't need to be a maintainer to participate.

NEW-COMERS? Remember to introduce yourselves! Please don't be shy, we love to corrupt party hear new opinions/discussion/thoughts. And maintainers, remember you can invite other writers.
How do you participate? Simple — write to a prompt and post the fic. Comment on this entry linking to your challenge fic once it's been posted at your ficjournal (or whereever you post fic). A summary is posted once the round is complete.

If you finish the prompt within the timeframe you can request from me! O: Take a look at my profile post and give me a challenge as cruel as what I've given you! You know you want to ;D

TAGGING: who wants it? SPEAK NOW. [livejournal.com profile] mayo_polyphony!

[livejournal.com profile] sugarless_666's Welcome to the Dollhouse for 3.a)
[livejournal.com profile] melinens' Ticklish for 3.a)

I'll give you a few days of mercy, ne? So if you are (and I hope you are) still writing for this round's challenges.. just comment here or the challenge post and I'll put it up in this post.

Don't wanna force-tag anyone, so.. any volunteers? ^^
[identity profile] melinen.livejournal.com
It's the end of Round 8. You can still write for these prompts if you want to, just comment here with what you've written.

[livejournal.com profile] sugarless_666: Overkill for 2.d) - A fic based around a line from a song (It's just overkill)

[livejournal.com profile] screaming_003: Threesome fic for 5.b)

No one asked me to write anything, I'm not sure if it's good or bad... xD Anyway, if you do want to you can still request a fic from me.
[identity profile] narcomanic.livejournal.com

edit: tagging [livejournal.com profile] narcomanic ^^
[identity profile] chantrea-johari.livejournal.com
It's the end of Round 7, I suppose. There were only two submissions, both for 5.(b). Late challenge responses are okay, I'd imagine, so if you still want to write anything for the challenge, just comment with it here.

[livejournal.com profile] sugarless_666 - Morning Sunset for 5.(b) Ficlet of exactly 500 words.
[livejournal.com profile] melinen - I Wanted to Know I Had You for for 5.(b) Ficlet of exactly 500 words.
[livejournal.com profile] squirrelpen - Marks for 4.(d) masochism - bassist x drummer

I don't tag anyone, really because I'm too lazy to go back and figure out who has had a challenge week already. Someone take it.
[identity profile] chantrea-johari.livejournal.com
Okay, so I know I haven't really been active in this community so far, but [livejournal.com profile] yokozuki asked me if I'd jump in and volunteer to come up with this week's challenge, so I did. Some of my challenges are oddly ridiculous, which is weird considering that I don't really read or write much humor myself. XP Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy these challenges!

1. Phrase: humorous phrase (inspired by random conversation with friends)
(a) "You think I'm in love with my guitar?"
(b) "I didn't know you could use drumsticks for that."
(c) A Clue-related phrase, but without any reference to Clue. (i.e. "with the lead pipe in the bathroom" or "with the rope in the library")
(d) "I'm not gay, I'm...heterosexually challenged."

2. Themed: two objects
(a) oranges + dildo
(b) paint + glasses
(c) train ticket + snowglobe
(d) tinfoil + feathers
(e) highlighter + piano
(f) underwear + flowers

3. Themed: emotion + setting
(a) fear + graveyard
(b) anger + train
(c) jealousy + office building
(d) glee + boat
(e) hope + park
(f) sadness + lake/ocean

4. Kink + band members: any band/artist
(a) orgy + at least 4 members
(b) bondage + guitarist x guitarist
(c) voyeurism + drummer x vocalist (you may include a third member if you choose to take the prompt this way)
(d) masochism + bassist x drummer
(e) bloodplay + bassist x vocalist

5. Form
(a) Write a fic of at least 1,000 words with no dialogue. In present tense.
(b) Write a fic with exactly 500 words. No more, no less. Exactly.

6. Round Robin:
Continue this round robin or start one of your own.

You can also request fics from me. I'll do my best to fulfill them, but I can't make any promises about my timeliness, as usual.
[identity profile] galhea.livejournal.com
Okay, after three tries to hand it off to someone else, I give up. x_x;

Whoever puts up a set of prompts first wins, or something. C'mon people, it's not that hard. T_T; -Pokes everyone.-

The next challenge week is now open to anyone (mods, that is) that hasn't done one yet. I expect to see someone posting in the next few days. -Cracks a whip.- >_>;
[identity profile] galhea.livejournal.com
Since [livejournal.com profile] ekucbbw is stuck with writer's block, I figured I should tag someone else. However, since it's short notice, I've decided to open it to anyone* that hasn't had a chance to do a challenge week yet -- the first person to comment with an "I'll do it!" or something similar will get it for the week. And if no one replies in 24 hours, I'll pick someone myself. :P

* anyone being one of the maintainers, naturally.

And for those that are watching this community, feel free to comment on other posts, or even try a prompt out if you want. If you're interested in being a part of the "team" as it were, link us to a fic of yours, and if one or more of us likes it, you'll probably be invited. ^^;
[identity profile] galhea.livejournal.com
Don't worry if you're still writing a fic for this challenge week -- just post the link to it in a comment here, and/or make a new post advertizing it. ^^;

[livejournal.com profile] melinen - Don't for 4. Anonymous
[livejournal.com profile] narcomanic - Duleek for 3. Quote a) "Anything that can go wrong, will." - Murphy's Law
[livejournal.com profile] sugarless_666 - Sweet Clematis for 1. Themed b) old magazine + Victorian house
[livejournal.com profile] velvetgunfire - Untitled Kra AU for 1. Themed d) red scarf + balcony
[identity profile] galhea.livejournal.com
In case people didn't know, challenge fics don't have to be oneshots, nor do they have to be finished by the end of the challenge time. I know a few of my prompts would probably be better suited to a chaptered fic than a oneshot, and I'm crossing my fingers and hoping more people write fics using my prompts, because I'd love to read what y'all come up with. XD I have a few ideas for old prompts, and even though the "official" challenge is over, maybe we could just pimp out whatever we write in a new post when it's a bit late for whatever challenge week it's for. Since I'm a lazy slow writer, making week-long deadlines is nearly impossible for me. XD

Oh, and since I forgot when posting my challenges, I tag [livejournal.com profile] ekucbbw for the next challenge set. ^^;

Anyway, I better go to bed before I start making no sense due to need of sleep. =_=;
[identity profile] mimei.livejournal.com
end of round five.

[livejournal.com profile] yokozuki 01; 02(c),(f)&(e); 03(a)&(b) all in one: Fading Star (Miyavi, Dir en grey)

[livejournal.com profile] mayo_polyphony 01(c) untitled (In Which Tadashi`s Aim is Flawless), Plastic Tree

[livejournal.com profile] nacromanic 01(c) Of corobockles and made-up words. (plastic tree)
and 04(f) Accident #42 (plastic tree)

[livejournal.com profile] velvetgunfire 02(c) untitled, Deadman

[livejournal.com profile] sugarless_666 01(c) and 02(e) Beautiful Hypocrite (Isshi x Miyavi)
and 01(c) Perspectives (Gazette and Kagrra,)

[livejournal.com profile] screaming_003 (i'm getting a 403 error so i'll amend this later ^^;;)

this post will be amended later re requests, etc. because i'm really in a rush sorry!
[identity profile] galhea.livejournal.com
I'm posting this a bit early since I'll be at Oni-con this weekend, and I'm leaving tomorrow. ^^; I don't want to rush to post it before I leave, so the challenge officially starts tomorrow, but you get a preview of sorts for this round. I'll be back on Monday to respond to comments and such if I don't get a chance to go online during the weekend.

1. Themed: item + place

a) clay bowl + onsen
b) old magazine + Victorian house
c) rosary beads + cellar
d) red scarf + balcony
e) broken porcelain doll + church
f) rope + abandoned building
g) mirror + attic
h) knife + bedroom

2. AU: any band/artist

a) rivalries - Pit the band members against each other, i.e. give them jobs or allegiances on opposing sides. The split can be even, or two vs. three, or four vs. one, etc. but at least two rival groups must be present. It doesn't necessarily need to be bitter rivalry; it could be simply a competition or game, as long as it's AU in some form.

b) transported - This is something a bit different than usual, but it could be fun. Pick a band/artist and drop them into a different universe -- it must be an original or historical setting, not some other fandom's universe. The catch to this is the band should remain themselves (i.e. as musicians), so they'll suddenly find themselves far from home without any idea of where (or when) they are. XD For example, say Gazette suddenly found themselves 300 years in the future, or Kra were dropped into the Heian period of Japan.

3. Quote: any band/artist (the quote doesn't need to be included, but the fic should be based around it in some way)

a) "Anything that can go wrong, will." - Murphy's Law (okay, so it's not exactly a quote, but still XD)

b) "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people." - Karl Marx

c) "The ends justify the means." - Nicolo Machiavelli

d) "The difference between sex and death is that with death you can do it alone and no one is going to make fun of you." - Woody Allen

e) "To know a thing well, know its limits. Only when pushed beyond its tolerances will true nature be seen. Do not depend only on theory if your life is at stake." - Bene Gesserit Commentary (Chapterhouse: Dune -- novel)

f) "In the hands of a con artist fear can be used to motivate obedience, capitulation, the exploitation of innocent people - and that is what I believe has happened here and I intend to prove that." - Jean-Luc Picard (Devil's Due)

4. Anonymous: Pick a pairing/band/artist and write something without naming names or using descriptors such as "the vocalist/bassist/etc." or mentioning hair color, height, and other obvious indicators. (Credit for this evil idea goes to [livejournal.com profile] kudakechiru_uso.)

5. Round Robin: Continue this round robin, or start your own.

---

And you can request a fic from me if you want. I'll do my best to write it, though it might take a while. ^^;;
