[identity profile] mimei.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] last_pleasure
Hey Army! And hi to any new members.

o1. I'll be taking over the remix. How's everyone going with it? Would you like me to screen submissions and then stagger the posting of remixes over December? Remember the deadline is December 5th. Comment, comment, コメントをして!!

o2. it's a little late for a Christmas one, so how about some kind of New Years challenge? Vote below. Suggestions please! I'm keen to see those who haven't participated before getting involved.

and o3. ADMIN instead of having thirty-three mods, who would prefer it if we cut it down to those who are actually active in administrating this community (not just posting challenges). Posting access is a separate thing and could still just as easily be awarded (we could have one post for requesting posting access). It just seems tidier to me (i.e. I do a lot of admin here, but my ficjournal really doesn't need to be a mod). AFAIC, maintainers ONLY need be people who actively administrate the comm and need the permissions to do so and (to my knowledge) there are only about 4-5 of us who do. But I can be a right neat freak, so if this is a terrible idea please vote so. Thanks.

[Poll #1096966]

ETA. Please comment if you wish to remain a maintainer.

Well, it was Anna's idea and Anna's comm, and you just kinda took off with it, I thought? ^^ Anyway -- yeah, there hasn't been as much activity as I think any of us have intended to happen, it seems like it's been a pretty argh year for everyone, huh? The prompts died for lack of consistent play cause nobody's had any damn energy, it seems like... If you're seeing it as a "status" then there's a problem, because isn't the comm kinda supposed to be not all cliquish like that (even though I know it's ended up so in a way, but...)?

Well, nobody twisted your arm to read her profile, and it was under a cut, so let it roll off your back. ^_^ If she comes onto your profile or comments to you anywhere about pairings, then fire at will, but until then... hey, nobody's going to bitch about what you put in your profile (not saying anyone should, no idea what's in your profile, just sayin' -- it's your space, you know?).

Pretty much I think the idea was to snag the writers who don't totally suck and have fun with each other. Some of the invitees, I didn't know before and am extremely glad to know now. Some of them, I would never have invited. But as long as they don't make trouble or something, I mean, where's the problem? Someone else liked their fic and invited them, the same as I can do, we're all one big communist writing blob. And when you say things like "the core group," that sets off the twitchy eyebrow.

Gyah, if something came across as patronizing, I apologize, it was meant as neutral/friendly kinda tone, you know? cause I didn't want to be stomping on your toes, just to talk.

Well, I'm not sure what your definition of the core group/people who started this comm together is, is what I was getting at... XD And there's people who joined later who stepped up and helped a lot more than those who were in the first invitees, so it's kinda... eh.

Oh, it's definitely juvenile to go around bashing pairings and so on. I dunno, I skimmed her profile and didn't really see anything soap box-y?... maybe I totally blanked out parts, but anyway, I guess I just don't see that it really matters if she's not, like, imposing herself into your space and doing it, you know? I just don't know why you seemed to take great offense to her profile and didn't comment to her to let her know that you found it offensive and would appreciate it if she would rephrase herself or remove it.

Ah. Well, you know, all we're doing is offering our opinions back, to which you're more than welcome to return your opinion of our opinion, and on and on :D I mean, we'll never turn it into a flame war or anything, so why not? ^^ Look, my fics aren't up to your standards, probably, so just throw that out the window... and we're both here, none of us are or should be going anywhere, there's plenty of room for everyone (who isn't a troll XD). I don't recommend getting bristly, it seems like it'd be bad for your health... (I am making this lame joke because I make lame jokes and I can't resist it, so pretend I didn't say that if it's so lame it makes you wanna smack me. ._.)

Well, I don't think there've been that many invitations?... ^^;; There was just the one that I know of that was let in for the asking. The contest last winter, well. Yeah. We did our best but our best wasn't good enough, I know. We should have advertised more and gotten more participants. If you mean the remix challenge, it seems fine to me? And seriously, post if you want to talk to people about stuff. Post. Say, "There's been a lot of nothing here. Talk to me. Let's do this or that. What do you think? What do you want to do? Who wants to do it?" or whatever. I think that's kind of what Cat was doing with the remix thing, and we'd been talking about doing the remix thing in comments in different posts for a while, so if that came out of nowhere to you, I apologize. I mean, if you don't like how things are, then post about it! Make your suggestions, converse, step up and implement once there's some agreement.

Mimei took the lead on the contest because nobody else was stepping up, and made several requests for assistance and discussion. You had plenty of opportunity to volunteer to help with the execution, to ask any of us who were helping about what was going on, to get in on the discussions, etc. Eh, and, as far as I know, 'things [being] worked out between the participants' was exactly what did happen?... or what do you mean by that, if I'm interpreting it wrongly...

Your issue with the categories is exactly why there was this option in the signup: "Best/Worst Awards: BRING IT ON! / Um. No. I don't believe in superlatives. / Okay, but only as long as I'm exempt from the Worsts," to which you opted "BRING IT ON!" and yours was nominated for one Best and "Most Controversial," which is, if anything, an In-Between?... ^^;; Frankly, I don't think the categories were that insensitive. I was nominated for some of the worsts and took it with good humor. Good humor and a grain of salt go a very long way in these things (in all of life, in fact). Pretty much, A) It's a contest, and B) That is, again, exactly why we made all those safety-double-checking options in the signup (and also applied common sense, ie, "I know that this person tends to get butthurt over small things, so I don't think we should nominate them for any worsts even though they didn't opt out of them.").

You speak with pride about your bluntness; I find it to be a good characteristic and only ask that you accept bluntness in return for what it is. There is no malice toward you here, only my personal opinion, and please always continue to return yours frankly, with the knowledge that mine will be returned likewise (I do candycoat and pussyfoot around things too much, I think, but yeah...). Things work a lot better that way in the long run. XD Then we don't end up with stuff like people letting us know a year too late that they didn't like the categories when they could've spoken up at the time and we could've changed them, you know?

If you commented to her in a friendly way, I don't think anyone would've minded. If all you'd said was something about being offended by her profile and wanting her to change it, then, well, to someone who's new and doesn't know that you're famously blunt, it would seem a bit rude, I think, so if I saw it, I would probably comment to her and smooth it over a bit... *shrugs* Not undermining what you'd asked, but just trying not to give her a bad impression of the comm as a whole, you know? But I don't know what you would've said or how you would've said it, so I'm just babbling here.

Writer's block is UGHHH... *grimaces in sympathy* I haven't written anything either in way too long... really have to get going on that...

Hey, we're all moody bitches. XDDD

I hope the frustrating things get less so soon!

Well, thank you for clearing the air now. ^_^

Heyhey, I don't really consider myself in a position where I can have any strong opinion on any of this, as I consider myself still a humble newbie who really fancies this community and votes for anything that will keep it going (and this comment will not be one of the good ones, I feel my mind descending into slippery linguistic madness, but who could resist that request? I comment I comment!).

I never got the whole maintainer bit in the first place, really, myself. I'd be in a corner fending off dust bunnies if asked to do a challenge and I wouldn't ever dare to muck about the community in the moderator sort of capacity, so why give me the opportunity?

Anyway, I fully support anything you guys conclude, as long as it's not closing the place down or kicking me out or both in reversed order. Right. I'm going now. :3

I kind of like the idea of everyone being equal as a maintainer, but I guess then we'd need to do something like voting on new members. I don't think there should necessarily be a distinction between core people who started in the comm and people who joined later, as long as they fit in with what the comm was originally created for. It does make sense to only have one main journal per person as a moderator even if we do all stay as moderators though.

Yeah, we don't need that many maintainers, definitely XD And I guess there isn't really a power difference if anyone who wants to be a maintainer can be one, but I just like the idea of all of us being trusted to be an equal member of the community, so I don't want maintainer-status to be something which divides us. As long as that doesn't happen, well yeah, we don't need that many XD I don't have an issue with things being neat or anything but I guess if it bugs you guys then fair enough.

Okay, not necessarily originally created for but what it is, which is a community for good writers who write j-fic, who are looking for a bit of a challenge maybe and who accept each other's differences.

I was originally invited with my ficjournal, but it does make sense for it to be de-maintainered since I mostly use this one for actual communication.

Oh yeah, I know. It's just normal for the maintainers to be the only people in charge of the community, and I don't want that to become the case.

my opinion counts for naught, as i haven't done anything here (ever, ever, ever, and i basically agree with everything you suggested (the 'cutting the people who don't actually do admin-related things' thing), since it doesn't make sense to give people powers that they won't even use). and the remix thing? haaa. yeah, i really don't think that's going to be happening for me ._. but who knows? i might get struck with inspiration within the next week and come up with something genius and write like a madwoman (butireallydoubtit). and i'd say yay to another challenge, but i probably wouldn't be able to come up with anything to participate anyway, so...

..um, wow, this came out more negative than i expected it would.

...*sparkles* :D?

Well, I've never really 'maintained' the community, as a posting access is all I need for posting challenges and other things, so having that removed won't really make a big difference. xD Anyhoo, I've been in a quite of a lurker mode recently.

And yeah, the remix is still going~ I need to start writing it soon. That is, when my Akira muse will stop distracting himself all the time and work with me. -__- Luckily there's a 5 days long holiday coming up. :D

'Kay, so are there some guidelines about posting the remix fics, or do we just post them into our journals and put the link here like always? *is kinda/almost/probably finished*
